On a small-capacity car that does most of its work in traffic, that means easier starts, a steadier idle and cleaner running. Iridium barely erodes, so the gap holds and you change plugs far less often.

Running CNG?

These are among the most CNG-converted cars in India, and this is the plug for them on gas as much as on petrol. NGK lists no separate CNG part, and the heat range here is the same 7 as the standard plug, so it is a straight replacement either way.

Where iridium earns its keep on gas is different from petrol:

• CNG needs more voltage to ignite. The 0.6mm fine wire concentrates the spark and fires at lower voltage, which counts for most on an older car whose coil and leads are no longer new.
• CNG wears electrodes faster. Gas is harder on a plug than petrol is, and iridium barely erodes. On a CNG car a conventional plug is something you replace often, and that is the cost this removes.

Fit as supplied. Have the plugs checked earlier than you would on a petrol-only car, since gas is harder on them. And if the car has become hard to start on gas, worn plugs are the first thing to rule out.

Fitting

Arrives pre-gapped and ready to fit. Thread in by hand first, then torque to your manual's figure. If you check the gap, move the outer electrode only.
