Braking, sharpened for the Apache RTX 300
The 66BHP Race Pro is a fully sintered brake pad built for riders who use the brakes with intent. On the TVS Apache RTX 300 it replaces the standard pad with a metallic compound that bites from the first millimetre of lever travel and holds that feel as the disc heats up.
What a sintered compound changes
Sintered pads are made by fusing metal particles under heat and pressure rather than binding an organic material with resin. The practical difference shows up in three places:
-
Initial bite. The lever responds sooner, so you brake later and with more information in your hand.
-
Heat stability. Repeated hard stops on a descent or a fast highway run do not soften the pedal and lever feel the way a tiring organic pad does.
-
Wet performance. The metallic surface clears water quickly, so the first pull in the rain behaves much like the first pull in the dry.
Race Pro or Street Pro?
Both compounds fit the RTX 300. Race Pro is the harder, more assertive set: choose it if you ride quickly, carry a pillion and luggage through the ghats, or brake late and repeatedly. If your riding is mostly commuting and touring and you would rather have low dust, low noise and easy modulation, the Street Pro semi-ceramic set is the better match.
Front, rear, or the complete set
66BHP supplies the RTX 300 as two separate part numbers. The front pad is RP 957 and the rear is RP 147. Choose a single position if you are replacing worn pads at one end, or the full set if you are refreshing the whole system in one go.
Where it earns its place
The RTX 300 is a road-biased adventure machine, which means it is asked to do a lot of different things: commuting, loaded touring, ghat sections, the occasional trail. Race Pro suits riders who carry a pillion or luggage, ride in hills, or simply want more authority than the standard pad offers. It is a firmer, more assertive pad than a semi-ceramic street compound, and it is meant to be.
